Dr. Tayfun Özdemir is a co-founder of Monarch and serves as its Chief Technology Officer and directs Monarch's day-to-day activities. He has a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from The University of Michigan and 9 years of experience in business development, project management and P&L. Dr. Özdemir has 20 years of experience in antenna design and prototyping, nanomaterial design for miniaturization, RF circuit design, EMI mitigation, subsurface imaging, and radar signal processing for target detection and identification. Dr. Özdemir is the co-inventor on a US patent on integrated planar antenna technology and his tenure includes development of numerous antenna prototypes for FM, cellular, GPS and Wi-Fi applications. He is credited with 6 papers in refereed journals and over 35 international conference presentations, and currently serves as the Vice Chair of the AP Chapter at IEEE SE Michigan Section. Dr. Özdemir has been successful in developing strong alliances with the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Boeing Company and L-3 Communications, and raising over a million dollars in SBIR grants through Virtual EM Inc, which he co-founded in 2002. His recent experiences have involved developing an antenna design software for U.S. Navy.


Jayson D. Pankin is a co-founder of Monarch and an advisor to the Company. Mr. Pankin leads Delphi Technologies, Inc.'s commercialization activities targeting spin-outs of potential "game changing technologies" into start-up companies. This includes creating internal incubators and external ventures, such as the spin-out of SpaceForm, Inc. to commercialize a disruptive metal welding technology, called Deformation Resistance Welding. SpaceForm was awarded the Michigan Technology Leader's Corporate Partnership Award for 2006. For over twenty-five years, Jayson has been a venture partner specializing in early stage and turnaround situations working with universities and Fortune 1000 corporations. He was a founder of Titan Auto, Inc., one of the largest insurance companies in Michigan. He earned his BBA in Accounting and MBA in International Business at the George Washington University.


Antonio Lück serves Monarch as its Business Development Manager under direction from Delphi. Antonio Lück was born in Brazil and received degrees from universities in his home country in law from Faculdade De Direito Curitiba and in civil engineering from Universidade Federal Parana. He is a certified engineer and a licensed lawyer in Brazil and has been serving as an advisor to the president of Universidade Tuiuti do Parana for more than five years. During this period Lück acquired extensive entrepreneurial work experience in Brazil. He was involved in creating the Project Office and the Intellectual Property in the University Tuiuti of Parana. Lück is enrolled in the MBA program at Wayne State University's School of Business Administration. During the 2006 E2Detroit Conference competition, his team developed a business plan and created a marketable product. He won the title "exceptional entrepreneur."


Dr. Thomas Anderson serves as Monarch's Chairman of the Board and Treasurer. Dr. Anderson is the senior director of Automation Alley and the director of the Automation Alley Technology Center. In his role as senior director, Dr. Anderson is responsible for overseeing the operations of Automation Alley along with executive director Ken Rogers. In addition, he serves as president of the Automation Alley Education & Research Institute, the Alley's new 501(c)(3) addition.

Dr. Anderson's prior position was as a strategic consultant, working with a range of clients to develop business plans, seek funding and develop process and decision tools for venture investing. He also gained 20 years experience at General Motors, leading technical research teams in fundamental research, initiating a licensing program for non-competitive applications, forming a National and International Neurotrauma research society, and developing processes to manage global cross-functional teams. He also serves on the Oakland University School of Engineering and Computer Science Advisory Council, President's Advisory Board at Walsh College, SpaceForm, Inc. Board of Directors, Michigan State University Corporate Research Park Management Board and the Beaumont Hospital Board of Trustees and Research Institute Board of Governors.

Dr. Anderson's education includes undergraduate and master's degrees in physics and math, a doctorate in neuroscience from the University of Michigan, and a master of business administration from Michigan State University.


Timothy Forbes serves as Monarch's interim President and member of the Board of Directors. Mr. Forbes is the Director of Commercialization & Licensing and has over 30 years of customer and business development experience. He has recently added the responsibility of achieving the maximum value from Delphi's technology portfolio through commercialization & licensing. In addition to his C&L role, Tim has been responsible for the creation of new ventures and leading Delphi growth efforts beyond automotive as Director of New Markets. He brings a wealth of Delphi and General Motors knowledge to his current positions; including leadership as Director of Modular Integration and Delphi's Customer Director for the GM North America Car Group. His divisional experience includes European Sales Director in Ruesselsheim, Germany that transitioned to worldwide program management. Tim earned B.S. in IE from General Motors Institute and earned his M.S. in Management as a Sloan Fellow at the Sloan School of Management at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.


Mr. Terry Cross is a member of the Board of Directors of Monarch and serves as its Secretary. Mr. Cross is an active venture capitalist and serves as Wayne State University's Entrepreneur in Residence at the School of Business.

After graduating from Wayne State University with an MBA in Finance in 1966, Mr. Cross entered the machine tool business in Detroit, Michigan, with The Cross Company, (publicly traded) the world's leader in Automated Machine Tools. From 1964 through 1968, Mr. Cross worked in many departments of The Cross Company, learning the business from the ground up. In 1970, Mr. Cross joined Kidder, Peabody & Co, and spent the next 25 years in the brokerage and investment banking business in Detroit, New York City, and San Francisco where he focused primarily on technology companies. Mr. Cross' past board memberships include: G2 Networks, Inc. of Los Gatos, CA, Safari Technology Inc. of Lawton, Michigan, GCB Technologies of San Jose, CA, InGenius Technologies of Kalamazoo, MI., Wordenglass Inc. of Kalamazoo, MI., Machine Vision International of Ann Arbor, MI, and Inivest of Detroit, MI, and Triumph Resources of New York City Since 1962, Mr. Cross has invested in forty private companies. Among the more well known are Novell, DSC Communications, Inktomi, Warehouse Club, PayPal, Napster, and he was a first round investor in Google.



Val Livada serves as a member of the Board of Directors. Val Livada founded Weybridge Partners in 1996 as a network of formal and informal associations of practitioners and organizations focused on the successful commercialization of technology. The network includes business and technology consultants, venture capitalists, academics, entrepreneurs, lawyers, etc in the US and abroad.

Val has spent over 25 years as a management consultant to both Fortune 200 and emerging companies. He was a Director at Braxton Associates, an international strategy planning consulting firm, and a Vice President at Pugh-Roberts Associates, a technology management firm established by MIT Entrepreneurship Professor Ed Roberts.

Prior to establishing Weybridge Partners, he was the leading practitioner in the area of innovation management for the PA Consulting Group. During his career, Dr. Livada has combined expertise in the areas of strategic planning and organizational dynamics with a detailed knowledge in the areas of innovation, product development and R, D & E management.

Val received his undergraduate degree from MIT and his MA/ PhD from Tufts University. He has been a Guest Lecturer at the MIT's Sloan School, Management of Technology Program for the last 12 years. Presently Val is working with the Cambridge University/MIT Institute on a variety of topics including Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Growth as well as Industry/University relations.



Dr. Andrzej M. Pawlak serves as a scientific advisor to Monarch. He has co-authored a number of patents in the area of Self Structuring Antennas which are licensed to Monarch. Dr. Pawlak is DTI's New Business Technology Development Manager. Dr. Pawlak provides technology analysis and patent review of Delphi's technology portfolio to enable spin-outs and create stronger patent positions. He has received numerous awards including multiple Boss Kettering awards, one of the highest honors for an inventor and has published a number of invited papers including 35 peer reviewed professional publications and has 85 patents issued and patent applications pending. He has recently published the book Sensors and Actuators in Mechatronics, Design and Applications, Taylor and Francis, Boca Raton, London, New York, 2006. He has a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Silesian University of Technology in Poland.


Scott Jones, an Adams Entrepreneur Fellow, received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University. He is currently enrolled in the MBA program at Wayne State University's School of Business Administration. He is also a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma International Honor Society. For the past five years Scott has worked for General Motors Corporation. In 2003 he co-authored an SAE paper on the "Optimization of a Commercially Available Chemilumenscence Analyzer for Low Level NOx Measurement" and presented his findings at the SAE World Conference. For the past three years Scott has been working on transfer case design, development, and validation for General Motors. Scott owns and operates two small businesses in his free time and is also enrolled in the Entrepreneurial Management class at Wayne State University.
